The FPIC received funding from the Ministère de la Famille to implement a project called Appui à la participation et à l’inclusion sociale des aînés de Lac-Simon et de Kitcisakik. The project ran from April 2016 to March 2018, involving community Elders, some of whom were already FPIC partners. The aim was to engage Elders as a target audience and also as active participants by inviting them to take part in planning, monitoring and implementing community kitchens.

Elders have a role as mentors in passing down knowledge and ancestral practices to younger generations. Thanks to the involvement of Elders in this project, through discussions and practical demonstrations, youth participants were able to learn about traditional recipes and foods from their territory. These foods, which many youths may not know, appeal to anyone who cares about healthy eating.
