On June 21, 2019, the First Peoples Innovation Centre, in partnership with the City of Gatineau, Outaouais en fête and Impératif français, organized events to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. Des Cèdres Park played host to an art exhibition, a First Peoples culinary experience, a performing arts demonstration (songs, traditional dances, big drum, stories and legends), a workshop on the Anishinabe language, a presentation on history as lived and interpreted by Indigenous people, a quiz on Indigenous facts vs. myths, and a screening of documentaries on Indigenous identity by Wapikoni Mobile. Several regional artists took part in this event, which was made possible thanks to generous funding from Canadian Heritage.
